Cosmetics & Personal Care

A battle of creativity at the in-cosmetics North America Formulation Challenge

Don’t miss some of the industry’s leading brands and cosmetic manufacturers pit their best chemists and marketers against each other in the annual Formulation Challenge at in-cosmetics North America 2018 on 17 October.

This year’s Challenge sees defending champion Colgate-Palmolive take on Estée Lauder, Unilever, Shiseido, Swiss American CDMO and, for the first time, Johnson & Johnson. Each team is made up of four R&D staff and two marketers who will fight against the clock to produce an innovative and marketable product from a box of mystery ingredients in just 90 minutes.

With ingredients supplied by bitop, Gattefossé, Geltor, Grant Industries, Jojoba Desert, Lipo True, Lubrizol, Mibelle Biochemistry, Sensient Technologies and Shin-Etsu, the event promises to deliver a competitively-charged atmosphere that is not to be missed.

The winning formulation chosen by the Institute of Personal Care Science and Mintel, will be announced at the in-cosmetics North America Awards Ceremony, where all the show’s visitors will have the opportunity to mingle with their peers and enjoy complimentary food and drinks.

Winners revealed
Other awards to be revealed at the ceremony will include the prestigious Innovation Zone award, given to the most innovative ingredient launched within eight months of the show; the Make-up Bar award for the most exciting make-up innovation; and the Sensory Bar award for the product that the judges deem to be the best sensory innovation.

And visitors wanting to learn more formulation secrets should head to the Formulation Lab – part of the show’s free-to-attend educational programme – for a unique chance to learn from expert formulators driving innovation in the beauty industry, including Kobo Products and Sensient Cosmetic Technologies.

Daniel Zanetti, Exhibition Director of in-cosmetics North America, said: “The Formulation Challenge and our Awards Program are two of the most inspiring events at the show, both demonstrating the kind of thinking that enables the development of ground-breaking and top-selling products. Innovation is the life blood of the industry and it is this that drives consumers to continue to buy new products. We’re also keen for as many visitors as possible to join us for the in-cosmetics North America Awards Ceremony to recognise this year’s winners and to benefit from the networking opportunities it offers.”

The Formulation Challenge takes place on 17 October from 3.45pm to 5.15pm in the Formulation Lab, followed by the in-cosmetics North America Awards Ceremony from 6pm.
