Lonza launches XPressEV bioactive functional for firmer skin at in-cosmetics Asia

At incosmetics Asia 2018 Lonza will launch XPressEV bioactive functional, which helps reduce the visible effects of chronological aging, leading to the appearance of firmer and “fitter” skin. In-cosmetics Asia 2018 takes place 30 October through 1 November in Bangkok (TH). Lonza will be at Stand N10.

“Like workouts help keep your muscles fit, XPressEV bioactive is designed to help keep your skin looking fitter, giving you a healthier, younger appearance,” said Jennifer Clancy, Senior Director of Global Marketing, Lonza Consumer Product Ingredients. “XPressEV bioactive is a
workout for your skin and works as hard as you do in your daily workout routine.”

Lonza’s premium skin-care ingredient, XPressEV bioactive functional is suitable for formulations designated for areas where consumers require firmer, fitter skin, primarily the face but also the neck and hands. It is targeted for consumers of both genders and of all ages.

“XPressEV bioactive is especially relevant to Asian consumers,” said Vanessa Arruda, PhD, Global Market Development Manager, Bioactives. “While wrinkling starts later in life (at about 40) for Asian consumers than for the rest of us, it happens faster, so they should begin early to
help in reducing the wrinkling process.”

XPressEV bioactive is an “evolution for personal care in skin surface architecture” because it works within the skin layers targeting the dermis and the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ).

Proven Results
Independent ex vivo efficacy tests showed that XPressEV bioactive helps to strengthen the DEJ by enhancing expression of Collagen VII and Laminin 5. The testing showed increases of 103 percent and 123% respectively. In addition, XPressEV bioactive helps improve the dermal architecture by increasing the expression not only of Collagen II — by 80% — and elastin — by 31%, but also decorin, which saw a 138% increase. A protein linked to collagen, decorin makes collagen stronger.

In vivo evaluations showed that the facial contour area at the lower cheek and jaw appeared more toned versus the control emulsion,” Arruda added. “In addition, the skin texture appeared smoother and wrinkles were less visible.”

XPressEV bioactive functional is created using cutting edge Supercritical CO2 extraction, a more environmentally friendly process than traditional extraction techniques, to obtain extract of Morus Nigra from mulberry leaves. Other ingredients are pearl extract, which has been used in traditional Chinese remedies and cosmetics for hundreds of years; linseed oil and canola oil.

ScreenLight Block
Lonza also will feature its award-winning ScreenLight Block bioactive functional, which helps protect skin from the visible effects of blue light and environmental stressors such as UV light and pollution. Lonza recently showcased ScreenLight Block at in-cosmetics Latin America 2018
and received the ITEHPEC Innovation Award Finalist Recognition for the bioactive functional (ITEHPEC: Innovation and Technology in Cosmetics, Toiletries and Fragrances; the Innovation and Technology chapter of the Brazilian  Association of the Personal Hygiene, Perfumery and Cosmetics Industry).

ScreenLight Block provides a powerful defensive shield against the visible skin-aging effects of blue light. In addition, it helps protect skin against the effects of UV stress and pollution.

“Asian consumers spend more time looking at their digital devices than any other region in the world,” Arruda said. “So ScreenLight Block is particularly important for Asian consumers who understand that their digital screen time plus the region’s environmental stress factors may
negatively affect their skin.”

ScreenLight Block is suitable for such skin-care formulations as facial cream and after-shave lotion, for make-up and for gentle cosmetic formulations. ScreenLight Block helps reduce the appearance of dark spots, resulting in skin that appears more evenly toned (based on in vivo clinical data). It helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles (based on subjects’ perceptions of themselves), and it helps prevent increased melanin production from exposure to visible light and pollution (based on ex vivo data).

Lonza produces the ScreenLight Block by using Supercritical CO2 extraction to obtain the Physalis alkekengi extract from the subtropical Chinese lantern fruit.
