Symrise to launch organohalogen alternative at in-cosmetics Global 2018

In its search for alternatives to organohalogen actives, Symrise developed SymGuard CD, a safe, skin and environmentally friendly ingredient. It is an effective alternative to triclosan and triclocarban which are increasingly being removed from many cosmetic applications due to diverse reasons.

Consumer’s demand for skin- and eco-friendly ingredients has been steadily increasing for years. With its sustainable approach and environmentally protective measures, Symrise makes a significant contribution with its products.

Due to consumer over exposure, environmental concerns and regulatory changes, conventional organohalogen systems, such as triclosan or triclocarban, are recently being removed from many cosmetic applications. Based on that fact, cosmetic manufacturers have increasingly been incorporating modern antibacterial ingredients into personal care products. Anticipating this development, Symrise worked to offer a dedicated ingredient answering the specific requirements of hygiene as well as surfactant-based cosmetic products, and developed SymGuard CD.

“We have dedicated ourselves to provide the cosmetics industry with effective alternatives to traditional antimicrobials. It’s also our aim to always offer our customers and thus consumers cutting-edge solutions,” says Dr. Florian Genrich, Senior Global Product Manager at Symrise.

Safe and Versatile
Symrise created SymGuard CD, a fast acting modern hygiene ingredient, based on non-organohalogen technology. This multifunctional ingredient protects the skin and the cosmetic product. SymGuard CD is a colourless, low-odour, easy to process liquid and can be used in different kinds of personal hygiene products such as soaps, oral care products, refreshing gels and deodorants.

“Thanks to its versatile characteristics, SymGuard CD offers a great deal of potential for all manufacturers of cosmetic products,” says Dr. Genrich.

The company will unveil its new product at in-cosmetics in Amsterdam. From April 17–19, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about SymGuard® CD and the complete offer of Symrise Cosmetic Ingredients Division at booth B70.
