Major explosion at chemical plant in Jiangsu, China

A major explosion has been reported at Jiangsu Tianjiayi Chemical Co, located in Chenjiagang Town, Xiangshui County, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. The incident occurred at about 14:48 pm on 21st March, causing deaths and major injuries. Rescue operations are in progress.
Jiangsu Tianjiayi Chemical Co, which was established in 2007, has 195 employees. It produces a range of chemicals for the speciality chemicals industry.
The incident is reported to follow several closures of chemicals plants in the area in 2018, in an effort to enhance safety and reduce environmental pollution. Although some plants have resumed production this year, China’s efforts to improve safety have not eased. This tragic incident will have a major impact on chemical production at surrounding sites.
