Stream Bio shortlisted for final of RSC Emerging Technologies Competition 2018

Stream Bio Ltd, a company that develops and manufactures a range of revolutionary bioimaging molecular probes, has been shortlisted for the Materials and Enabling Technology award within the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Emerging Technologies Competition 2018. The competition, now in its sixth year, takes science from the cutting edge and accelerates its commercialisation into the real world. Due to take place at Chemistry Means Business 2018 on 15thOctober in London, the final will welcome start-ups, SMEs, academic entrepreneurs and multinational organisations from across the chemistry-using community.

The Emerging Technologies Competition is divided into four categories: Health, Energy and Environment, Food and Drink, and Materials and Enabling Technologies. Stream Bio will be competing in the latter category, having been shortlisted to present their Conjugated Polymer Nanoparticle (CPN) technology to a panel of expert judges at the final.

Stream Bio’s CPNs, invented in the research labs of King’s College London, represent a new generation of molecular bioimaging probes. These highly fluorescent, non-toxic nanoparticles are set to transform the bioimaging market with their unique brightness, exceptional stability, magnetic capability and suitability to be conjugated with a range of molecules. These unique properties offer many advantages over traditional dyes and probes, and give the added benefit of easy substitution into existing lab protocols. Stream’s CPN products currently have applications in cell detection, labelling, diagnostics and therapeutics; they also have potential applications in tumour imaging and fluorescence-guided surgery.

CEO of Stream Bio, Andy Chaloner, said: “We are honoured to be shortlisted for the Emerging Technologies Competition this year and very excited to present our unique probes to the RSC and fellow innovators. We believe our CPN technology is set to revolutionise the R&D industry. This is a big step for our start-up biotech company and we are excited to see what the future holds for Stream Bio.”
